Sichuan Pavilion

Sichuan Pavilion

THEME: Water, Lifeline of Sichuan

PAVILION: The two-layer structure is based on the special landscape of Sichuan. The circular inner wall with 3D ecological images is encircled by a modern hyperboloid outer one, embodying the harmonious coexistence of cities and nature.

EXHIBIT: The history and culture of Jinsha Sunbirds lead visitors into a secluded, beautiful and harmonious world. The three exhibition sections display Sichuan’s urban history and civilization, the wisdom of “following the law of nature” and wonderful future. Sunbirds decorate the doorway into the Pavilion. A bronze human figure unearthed in 1980 in Sichuan province greets visitors once inside. A wooden tripod dam, an ancient means of water management, is displayed in the opening gallery. Videos and image slideshows display the culture of Sichuan, from opera to their renowned spicy cuisine. On a nearby stage, Mengding Mountain Tea Art, a combination of martial arts, tea ceremony and ancient philosophy, is performed as will be excerpts from Sichuan Opera. A video also honors those who lost their lives in the earthquake that devastated rural parts of the province just before Expo, and expresses gratitude for the aid that poured into the stricken province from around the world. A final video highlights tourism in Sichuan. The Silk Road comes alive before the visitor’s very eyes. A 3-dimensional optical map displays the future of Sichuan rising from the New Tianfu Divine Land. The Dujiangyan Irrigation Project will also be experienced through virtual modeling and multimedia.
